Managing Dizziness in Pole Classes: Tips for Staying Comfortable
If you’ve ever felt dizzy during a pole class, you’re not alone. Dizziness can happen, especially when you’re working on spins or transitioning between moves. The good news? It’s completely normal and can be managed with a few simple tips. Here at Body Evolution Studios, we’ve helped many students overcome this challenge, and we’re sharing our best advice with you.
Why Does Dizziness Happen?
Dizziness during pole classes often occurs due to a combination of factors, such as dehydration, quick movements, or adjusting to new spins and inversions. It’s your body’s way of telling you to slow down and make small adjustments to get comfortable.
Pro Tip #1: Try Ginger Gravol
If dizziness is a frequent issue for you, try taking ginger Gravol about 30 minutes before your class. Ginger has natural properties that can help reduce nausea and dizziness, allowing you to focus on your moves without discomfort. You can also bring ginger ale or mints to class for a quick fix if dizziness strikes during your session.
Pro Tip #2: Practice on Both Sides
When working on spins, transitions, or other dynamic moves, make sure you’re practicing on both sides of your body. Switching sides can help minimize dizziness, as it evenly distributes the strain on your body and prevents over-reliance on one side. This will also make your practice more balanced and effective in the long run.
Stay Hydrated and Take Breaks
Dehydration is a common cause of dizziness, so be sure to drink water before, during, and after your class. If you feel dizzy, take a moment to pause, breathe deeply, and have a sip of water. It’s always better to listen to your body and give yourself a short break rather than push through discomfort.
Your Body Will Adjust
If you’re new to pole dancing or advancing into more challenging moves, it’s important to remember that dizziness is temporary. As your body becomes more accustomed to the movements and spins, the dizziness will subside over time. Every class brings progress, and your body will adapt with consistent practice.
